wine@34south imports fine South African wines, representing boutique family wineries from most of the leading coastal appellations. Each winery expresses the character of the family through their internationally acclaimed wines, including Shiraz, Pinotage, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and the special wines of champenoise, botrytis sauvignon-semillon and port.

Three of the wineries are amongst the oldest properties in the Cape, some are amongst the leading-edge wineries of the ‘80s and early 90’s, while others represent the millenial generation. All create wines that they grow, hand-pick, make and bottle at the winery. Flavor profiles encompass the richness of new world fruit while always paying homage to the Cape’s French heritage with the structure of old world balance.

All of these wineries participate in the Integrated Production of Wine, which has strict regulations relating to environmental sustainability and social responsibility. The IPW, while not organic, implements policies and procedures that are far more encompassing than simply ‘organic’.

wine@34south represents fine estate wines from South Africa. As a small fine wine importer, we specialize in small production, hand-crafted wines that provide good value. We offer wines with uniqueness and quality. We are incredibily committed and passionate about these gems. Each wine that we purvey comes with the assurance that we have thoughtfully evaluated the wine in the context of local palate preferences.

The producers we represent are all committed to superlative quality, with a guiding principle that the wines should reflect their distinct terroir. We believe in our wine-makers and share their passion. These are wines made by people who truly care. Production is usually less than 2,000 cases per varietal and in several instances, it is less than a few hundred. We are often allocated no more than 300 cases. When our wines are on a restaurant list, we will always make every attempt to ensure availability.

Our clients seek out the unusual, the small, and the high quality. They do so with the intent of seeing their customers smile. We are dedicated to supporting our distributors and their clients in these efforts. Our portfolio is represented in key fine wine shops and restaurants in Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Ohio, Vermont, Virginia, Washington DC, Washington and Wyoming. Our focus this year is to grow our presence in each of these markets and to expand distribution along the East Coast.

We take every precaution in transportation, using refrigerated containers and the shortest possible journey, direct Cape Town-Baltimore. Domestic transport is via temperature controlled trucks. We continue this commitment with a temperature controlled warehouse in Annapolis and a public cold-store warehouse in Baltimore. We strive to deliver to our clients in the same perfect conditions.
