 about us

wine@34south. Yes, latitude matters. And for that matter so does attitude. While consumers seldom, if ever, get to know the personalities behind the wine, this is where it starts: with good people who make good wine for the right reasons - because they really, really want to make good wine; because they believe that wine is a beverage to complement a good meal; and because wine is not a trophy.

How do we select estates to represent in the US? First the wine. Then the people. Not much else. If the people are really nice and the wine is not great, then it doesn’t matter how nice the people are (even though that is often a hard and sad decision). If the wine is fabulous but the people are not, then it doesn’t matter how good the wine is. Sure we could sell it...but would we really want to?! We work only with really good wine and really good people.

Who are we? I am Theresa Morrison. My business partner is also my husband, John Morrison. I am from Sedona, Arizona and moved to South Africa (long story) in 1985. John’s family is many generations from South Africa. We lived in Cape Town and had careers in finance and industry. We thoroughly enjoy wine. In the mid ‘90s, I came to realise that it is important in life to work with people who are nice, honest, have integrity - and care.

I married my passion for wine with my skills and experience. é voila! wine@34south was born. John “retired” from his board room executive role to join me ... I was having fun. Now we live in Annapolis, Maryland (all the better to serve you) and both of us are having fun!

I give educational classes and seminars on South African wines to your staff and your customers and their customers.

I also wrote a book about South African wine regions - Cape Winelands. It is a visually stunning tour guide to, yes, select small estates in the main wine areas close to Cape Town. In addition to absorbing the ambience of each winery, you’ll find oodles of interesting wine history.
