In line with international trends, Môreson produces different styles of wine aimed at different markets. Pinecrest wines are crafted in a new world style emphasizing fruit driven flavors and rounded softness for earlier drinking, without sacrificing the rich fruit complexity necessary to ensure their quality. The name ‘Pinecrest’ is taken from the forestry reserve that adjoins the vineyards and provides refuge for the birds of prey that keep grape scavengers away.
During the growing season of each vintage, winemakers Anton Beukes and Jacques Wetzel selects blocks of grapes that display the fruit attributes which characterize Pinecrest wines. The vineyard practices and the harvesting are focused on capturing the Pinecrest style. The selection of yeasts, older barrels and maturing for less time is done to ensure that the wines produce their most desirable characteristics as early as possible.
Pinecrest chenin blanc undergoes extended cold fermentation to enable the soft melon fruits to dominate, a trademark for the team at Môreson. In some years, Pinecrest chenin is released after Môreson chenin!! Pinecrest sauvignon blanc is harvested from the same vineyard as the Môreson sauvignon blanc designated vines. Pinecrest chardonnay is unwooded. Pinecrest cabernet sauvignon and pinotage are aged in older barrels, generally for about nine months. Although distinctly different from Môreson wines, Pinecrest has the absolute guarantee of Môreson quality.
